【59期・研修旅行】7/5 国際文化科⑩ ホームステイ2日目

The house I stayed at had a young boy, a slightly older boy (as for him, he was so big that I honestly doubted his age), and a teenage girl (she was about my age, but under Australian law, people can apparently drive at that age, so she took us to the beach by car). In particular, the younger boy (I will call him Bj) was very energetic. Right after I arrived, he gave us a room tour, and after that, we played basketball in the large backyard and played his original mysterious games. He seemed to love smartphone games, and we were made to download about five apps (my phone capacity decreased, but it became a great memory 😁) .

What I realized through this homestay experience was that I completely failed to understand what Bj is thinking. Especially with Bj, I really could not understand what he was thinking, what he wanted to do, or what the rules of his games were. I do not know if it was due to the language barrier or just because of his age, but it felt a little exhausting for me. Even so, in the end, I was able to feel that it was incredibly fun!

On the first day of the homestay, I could not play very energetically because I could not sleep at all on the plane, but on the second day, I fully committed myself to hanging out with Bj.

I think I might have caused Bj some frustration because we did not agree on things or because I could not understand what he was saying. However, on the final day, after we said good night, he came to our room once more. I wondered what it was, and it turned out he came to hand me a rare Pokémon card—the one he had shown us on the first day. I believe it was something very important to him, but he said with a smile, "This is a present for you," making me feel from the bottom of my heart his kindness and my gratitude that this host family had welcomed us. (Even after that, he came to my room one more time and said bye-bye with a lonely expression).

He is truly like a little brother, and I cannot help but find him absolutely adorable. If I ever have another opportunity to visit Australia, I want to see him again.

As for the photos, I will include the ones from when we went to the beach, during our games, at the nature park, in the large pool at home, the Pokémon card, and the plush toy I received from the host family.
