【59期・研修旅行】7/5 国際文化科⑩ ホームステイ2日目

The house I stayed at had a young boy, a slightly older boy (as for him, he was so big that I honestly doubted his age), and a teenage girl (she was about my age, but under Australian law, people can apparently drive at that age, so she took us to the beach by car). In particular, the younger boy (I will call him Bj) was very energetic. Right after I arrived, he gave us a room tour, and after that, we played basketball in the large backyard and played his original mysterious games. He seemed to love smartphone games, and we were made to download about five apps (my phone capacity decreased, but it became a great memory 😁) .

What I realized through this homestay experience was that I completely failed to understand what Bj is thinking. Especially with Bj, I really could not understand what he was thinking, what he wanted to do, or what the rules of his games were. I do not know if it was due to the language barrier or just because of his age, but it felt a little exhausting for me. Even so, in the end, I was able to feel that it was incredibly fun!

On the first day of the homestay, I could not play very energetically because I could not sleep at all on the plane, but on the second day, I fully committed myself to hanging out with Bj.

I think I might have caused Bj some frustration because we did not agree on things or because I could not understand what he was saying. However, on the final day, after we said good night, he came to our room once more. I wondered what it was, and it turned out he came to hand me a rare Pokémon card—the one he had shown us on the first day. I believe it was something very important to him, but he said with a smile, "This is a present for you," making me feel from the bottom of my heart his kindness and my gratitude that this host family had welcomed us. (Even after that, he came to my room one more time and said bye-bye with a lonely expression).

He is truly like a little brother, and I cannot help but find him absolutely adorable. If I ever have another opportunity to visit Australia, I want to see him again.

As for the photos, I will include the ones from when we went to the beach, during our games, at the nature park, in the large pool at home, the Pokémon card, and the plush toy I received from the host family.

 Day 2 of My Homestay!

Today was my second day with my host family!

The day started with a delicious breakfast they prepared for me. The Australian sausages were much thicker and meatier than the ones we usually have in Japan. They were so filling and absolutely delicious!

After breakfast, we went to Trinity Beach. My friends and I played soccer on the beach and had an amazing time. The scenery was beautiful, but what surprised me the most was a warning sign that said, “Beware of crocodiles and jellyfish.” You would never expect to see that at a beach in Japan, so I couldn’t help doing a double take. “Wait… crocodiles!?” 😂

After playing, I finally got to try the dragon fruit and custard apple that my host family had bought with me yesterday. It was my first time eating both fruits, and they were much sweeter and tastier than I had expected. Since you don’t often see them in Japan, it was a really fun experience.

Next, we visited Palm Cove. There were lots of market stalls, and the whole place felt like a flea market. I found plenty of great souvenirs, but my host family told me, “Everything here is more expensive because it’s a tourist area,” so I decided to just look around this time. 😄

When we got back home, my host family had made homemade meat pies for dinner. They were absolutely incredible! They tasted so good that I honestly thought they were good enough to be served in a restaurant.

After that, I lay down on my bed just to take a short break… but I accidentally fell into a deep sleep! When I woke up, it was already 6:00 p.m. I couldn’t believe it. I guess that’s what happens after such an active day!

For dinner, we had a huge chicken dish. Ever since I arrived, every meal my host family has prepared has been amazing. I already look forward to every meal.

Even though it’s only my second day here, I already feel completely at home. It honestly feels like I’ve been living with my host family for much longer. Every day has been so full of fun that time is flying by. To be honest, I’d love to stay here much longer than just one week! 😄

Now I’m going to take a shower, relax for a while, and head to bed.

That’s all for Day 2 of my homestay!

I’m writing this blog from my host family’s house tonight.

Today, we arrived at our host family’s house feeling nervous. At first, we didn’t know what to talk about with our host mother. However, she actively talked to us and made us feel comfortable, so we gradually gained the confidence to talk with her.

She took us to several places. For example, we went to the Lagoon. It’s a public pool that anyone can use. We also went to a famous supermarket, where we bought some snacks and sweets. They were all so delicious!

Tomorrow, we want to visit more places and discover even more of Australia’s charm!

【59期・研修旅行】7/4 国際文化科⑦ ホームステイ1日目

Today was our first day with our host families. I’m writing this blog tonight at my host family’s house.

I was very nervous until I met my host family, but they asked me a lot of questions, and little by little, I became more comfortable speaking English.

They also took us to a supermarket and a shopping mall. There were so many colorful snacks, and it was a lot of fun.

In the evening, I had dinner that my host father made. It was really delicious!

Tomorrow I’ll spend the whole day with my host family, so I’m looking forward to having lots of fun!
